I often catch myself comparing myself to someone else.
I’ll see someone mention something on Facebook.
Or notice how they post an epic picture on Instagram.
Or write an article I wish I had written myself.
I begin to question whether I’ve got what it takes.
I have to slow it down.
“Come on, man… stop this chatter.”
Because that’s all it is: chatter.
YOU trying to freak yourself out.
Why… well, everyone has their reasons.
The past often holds that particular truth.
But what matters NOW is what you do about it…
To listen, worry and hustle like a maniac.
Or… tell it to hush the f**k down.
As Epictetus says, those who are truly grounded don’t need approval from others or anything outside of their own mind.
I am enough.
I love myself.
I am doing okay.
This is the kind of internal chatter we all need more of.
But in my experience, such “chatter” doesn’t just happen.
The negative kind takes over.
It’s much (much) louder.
To have this kind of conversation with yourself takes practice.
Intention.
Remember this the next time you catch yourself comparing yourself to someone else. Remember, you are not alone; doing so is normal.
We all do it.
But you do get to choose whether you listen to it.
Or, tell it to hush down so you can get on with YOUR journey.
