Episode 22 – From the Depths of Despair came Success for Christine McKay

From top High School student to university drop out, broke, living out of her car and pregnant, Christine McKay’s world came tumbling down. A marriage and two more children came in quick succession. With a husband that believed that she should be at home with the kids, but was unable to provide for the family, Christine sunk to even greater depths of poverty and hopelessness.

Despite everything, with the encouragement of a mentor, Christine set a goal to go to Harvard. Against seemingly impossible odds, Christine managed to break free from her marriage and while looking after her children, put herself through university, graduated with honours and gained a prestigious job. With her goal to go to Harvard not forgotten, Christine applied and was accepted to the Harvard MBA programme.

Christine has forged a career over nearly 30 years in the corporate world as a negotiator, negotiating deals with companies around the world, including dealing with the majority of the Fortune 500 companies in the US. In recent years, Christine established her own company Venn Negotiation, where she specialises in helping and up-skilling small to medium sized companies on the art of negotiation. Christine also sits on the board of two non-profit charities as she aims to help mentor women who are facing similar challenges to what she did, all those years ago.

Christine is a very engaging and inspirational person, who refused to succumb to her circumstances, overcame the odds and has achieved great success in all aspects of her life.
